Bob Barnard and John Sheridan playing the music of Hoagy Carmichael

Originally from Melbourne, Bob Barnard is one of Australia's most sought after jazz musicians and also considered the world's leading cornetist. Bob's mellow tone and lyrical style have been an integral part of the Australian Jazz scene since the 1950's when playing with his brother around Australia.
More recently, Bob's music has become known to the rest of the world where he is in much demand and can be heard among the best musical company. On his regular trips to North America, he has performed with the likes of Jim Cullum, John Sheridan, Dan Barrett and Peanuts Hucko.

John Sheridan, a native of Columbus, Ohio, has been part of the jazz scene since the age of 13, his first professional gig being with Jimmie Luellen’s Novelaires. After graduation in 1968 from Capital University in Columbus, Sheridan spent four years in the United States Navy Band and then earned his MM degree at the University of North Texas, where he was rehearsal pianist for Casa Manana Summer Musicals, and worked regularly with Tommy Loy’s Upper Dallas Jazz Band. In 1979, Sheridan joined the Jim Cullum Jazz Band in San Antonio, where he was to remain for nearly 24 years. In 1996, he began recording for Arbors Records, an association that has produced a 3-CD series, John Sheridan and His Dream Band, and Forgotten Dreams, an album of duets with Dick Hyman, among many others.

Two contemporary masters in a CD of unashamedly mainstream jazz in
a traditional duet format

Talented veteran swing-oriented tenor Danny Moss has been an important part of the British jazz scene since the early 1950s. He started playing professionally when he was 16 and through the years has worked with just about everyone in the UK’s jazz world: Vic Lewis, Ted Heath, Johnny Dankworth, Alex Welsh, Humphrey Lyttelton and the Pizza Express All-Stars among others.

A fine thick-toned tenor stylist in the tradition of Coleman Hawkins, Danny Moss has led his own groups and performed with many visiting Americans in the UK. He moved with his wife singer Jeanie Lamb, to Perth, Australia, in 1989, but made regular return visits to Europe for gigs, tours and recording dates until his illness earlier this year.

One of the truly great jazz tenor saxophonists in the world today. Moss has the huge, rich, full, tenor sound of a Coleman Hawkins or a Ben Webster, and he's lithe and supple with it.

"Danny produces some of the finest playing I have heard at any of Bob’s parties" - Roger Beilby

"Danny Moss has long been regarded as one of the world's truly great tenor sax players.
Danny, whose huge tone and phrasing are instantly recognisable has done just about everything that can be done in the jazz world. He was star soloist with the Big Bands of both Ted Heath and Johnny Dankworth; he often guested with the fabulous Chicago style band of Alex Welsh and a two-year stint with the Humphrey Lyttelton band followed. After that he started to tour with his own band often in the company of his wife vocalist Jeannie Lamb. As well as in the UK, he rapidly became a festival regular throughout Europe, USA, Canada and the Far East and after his third visit to Oz, he decided to make it his home."
- Don Mather

"This was the seventh staging of the 'jazz party' and the seventh that Danny Moss had attended. His presence contributed several valuable ingredients. Firstly, there is his rich, warm tone which has no peer among living tenor sax players. Secondly he has an ability to surprise and excite, which is usually found only in the adventurous young. And finally he has wonderful taste as exemplified in his choices of songs and tempos."
- John Trudinger April 2006.
