The Key To It All is the debut album from John Horler's new group, The Modern Jazz Trio, recorded live at a great gig at Watermill Jazz in Dorking, Surrey, capturing all of the vibrancy and energy of the occasion.

John Horler, described by Dave Gelly (the distinguished jazz critic for the Observe4) as "one of the finest jazz pianists that Britain has ever produced", has been an? established figure on the British jazz scene for many years. In that time he has worked with many jazz greats - most memorably Chet Baker, Zoot Sims, Bob Brookmeyer, Victor Feldman, and of course our own Tony Coe and Kenny Wheeler.

Mike Smith formerly played with the BBC Big Band, and is a Big Band and session drummer of distinction as well as a swinging, solid anchorman in a small ensemble. He has interpretive skills that are almost magical!

Sam Burgess is rapidly building a name for himself and becoming first choice bassist for many bands. He is a regular face with James Pearson's house band at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, and is one of the most inventive bass players around today.
