This is the long-awaited second album from The James Pearson Trio, and the ?rst in their current incarnation as resident band at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. As musical director at Ronnie Scott’s for the past 3 years, James Pearson has supported and performed with some of the greatest stars of the jazz world, and developed his own trio into a tight and incredeibly energetic unit- as good to watch as well as listen to!

Recorded over 4 nights live at the club, the album typi?es the make-up of one of their regular sets, and captures the verve and intensity that is a product of performing together on such a regular basis in the great environment of one of the world’s most famous and respected jazz clubs.

Released in January 2009 to coincide with the group’s Jazz Services sponsored tour, Make Believe features 3 original compositions from Jim Mullen, as well as one of his interpretations of a traditional Robert Burns work Ae Fond Kiss, 3 standards worked into their 2008 gigs, and a beautiful melody by saxophonist Jo Fooks, Just The Little Things.

After the trio’s highly successful collaboration with Stan Sulzmann on 3 tracks of their previous album, Smokescreen, they invited him to play throughout this CD, and to join them on the tour . In the sleevenotes, Jim is suitably effusive about Stan’s incorporation in the ensemble, and the trio ?rmly believe that Stan helps make this their strongest CD to date.
