Pianist/composer/bandleader Mark Eisenman recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of his renowned jazz trio. Building on the strength and musical success of this unit, Mark adds stellar horn players John Macleod and Pat Labarbera to form the new Mark Eisenman Quintet. The five band members bring a wealth of experience to this new project, having worked with many of the legends in jazz, including: Buddy Rich, Oscar Peterson, Art Farmer, Barney Kessel, Rob McConnell, Woody Herman, Zoot Sims, Jimmy Cobb, and many others.

The Toronto Star says "His professional status is based largely on his skill and versatility as an ensemble player, but what marks him most is an ability to produce, no matter what the musical company, distinctive well-structured solos". His compositional works have been described as "...showing a flair for wide-ranging form and expression".

Produced by Barry Elmes, and supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, Apparition also features the magnificent sound of the Steinway D concert grand piano located at Inception Sound Studios, Toronto.

"The recording is jazz in the true sense of the word, with lots of room for improvisation leaving the listener to hear the synthesis of the player's individual voices, which Eisenman has artfully arranged to create a full palette of texture and colour. Eisenman brings a bright, crisp sound to the mix, while Wallace and Sumner provide a solid rhythm section that swings hard, creating a verdant bottom end. Saxophonist LaBarbera and trumpeter MacLeod add full-bodied spice to the sound, with their unison and harmonic lines interspersed with their accomplished solos."
