BARRY GREEN - A BIOGRAPHY

Barry formally studied jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, graduating in 2002. Whilst still studying, he began playing professionally in a wide ranging variety of musical styles.

Barry plays regularly with both singers and instrumentalists in jazz venues all over the UK, including London's most important venues - Ronnie Scotts, Pizza Express Dean Street, the 606 Club and the Vortex. In 2001, he was resident pianist with Salena Jones at her jazz club in West London, where he had the opportunity to play alongside many visiting artists such as Richie Cole.

The musicians he performs with regularly include: Martin Speake, Bobby Wellins, Spike Wells, Anita Wardell, Christine Tobin, Anders Christiansson, Bob Martin, Julian Arguelles, Gene Calderazzo and Mark Lockhart.

He is a member of Ingrid Laubrock’s band (featuring Seb Roachford) which has toured extensively recently and has tours of Germany and Ireland coming up in 2007. Barry is also a member of bassist Larry Bartley’s trio (with Winston Clifford). This trio formed the core part of an Octet that performed and was recorded at 2006’s Cheltenham Jazz festival. Both these bands have CDs in the pipeline.

Barry has also had a wide range of teaching experience at various Jazz Summer schools, and at The Guildhall School of Music and Goldsmiths College.

In June 2005 Barry recorded a trio album with US musicians Ben Street and Jeff Williams, who between them have played with (amongst many others) Stan Getz, Dave Liebman, Danilo Perez and Brad Mehldau. Other highlights of 2005 included a tour of Ireland headlining at the Cork Jazz Festival with Irish singer Honor Heffernan; and a tour with the New York based tenor player Bill McHenry.
